Madrid – Jupp Heynckes is shocked by the Corona death of Lorenzo Sanz, with which he won the CL – and describes what made Real Madrid’s ex-presidents.

Jupp Heynckes is deeply saddened by the death of the former president of Real Madrid, Lorenzo Sanz, who died on Saturday in a hospital in the Spanish capital as a result of the corona virus.

“The coronavirus also cost him his life.
On Wednesday, I was told that the former Real Madrid president was very ill after contracting Covid 19 disease,” Heynckes wrote in an obituary for the kicker.

The 74-year-old had won the Champions League as Real Madrid coach in 1997/’98 – Heynckes and Sanz had more than just a working relationship, but a friendly relationship.

He has “fond memories of this time with the Sanz family. That’s why this news of his death hit me so hard. My sympathy goes out to Mrs. Sanz, her children, and the entire family. I grieve with them.”

Heynckes paid tribute to the businessman Sanz, president of the Royal Family between 1995 and 2000, as a “fine man” who was distinguished by a “noble disposition”: “We had a great relationship from president to coach and from person to person.”

Former Bayern coach Heynckes also cited a very personal example of Sanz’s human qualities: “After the final in Amsterdam and returning to Madrid, my wife suddenly became very ill. Just one hour after she was admitted to the clinic, President Sanz was sitting at her bedside with his wife. Senora Sanz even offered my wife to spend the whole night in the hospital room. What a humane gesture! What a noble family!”

Heynckes also took a more general stand on the corona crisis: “Since this pandemic is raging on a particularly terrifying scale in Spain and Portugal, where I worked as a trainer for many years, I feel an immense personal consternation.”

He added: “The fact that families are unable to accompany their loved ones in their last hours and say goodbye to them has an incredibly depressing effect. We are with them. It is a worldwide tragedy.”

Heynckes therefore appealed: “And so, once again, we ask you Stick to the rules! Stay in your homes.”Madrid – Jupp Heynckes is shocked by the Corona death of Lorenzo Sanz, with which he won the CL – and describes what made Real Madrid’s ex-presidents.
