Real Madrid mourns the death of its former president Lorenzo Sanz.
The businessman, who was admitted to intensive care on Tuesday in a critical condition, died on Saturday evening as a result of the coronavirus in a hospital in Madrid.
“He did not deserve this end and this way. He is one of the kindest, bravest and most hardworking people I have ever seen. His family and Real Madrid were his passion,” Lorenzo Sanz junior confirmed on Twitter the death of his father.
Under Sanz, President of the Royal Family between 1995 and 2000, Real won the Champions League twice. Just a few weeks after his second triumph in 2000, he was replaced as President by Florentino Pérez.
Current Real captain Sergio Ramos spoke on Twitter of a “very sad day for Real Madrid … His death makes these sad days in which we find ourselves even worse.
