The Bundesliga cannot make up any more ground on the Premier League. After the bankruptcies of Dortmund, Wolfsburg, and Frankfurt, Italy is breathing down their necks even more.

After defending champions Liverpool FC and last year’s finalist Tottenham Hotspur had failed in the Champions League, the Bundesliga would have had the chance to make up for further ground in the second place in the five-year ranking of the European Football Union (UEFA) via the Europa League. But Eintracht Frankfurt and VfL Wolfsburg failed in the Europa League.

Germany broke the 15 point hurdle. After this week, the Bundesliga is 3.274 points ahead of Serie A. If the 2015/16 season is taken away, the next season is removed from the ranking, Italy is currently even slightly ahead of Germany. This season will be cancelled for the coming season. Germany scored 16.428 points, Italy only 11.500.

UEFA’s 2019/20 five-year ranking after the first four round of sixteen in the Champions League and the first round of sixteen in the Europa League (decisive for the allocation of starting places in 2021/22)

1. Spain 99.426
2. England 88,176
3. Germany 71,641
4. Italy 68,367
5. France 56,915
6. Portugal 49,449
7. Russia 45,549
8 Belgium 37,900
9. the Netherlands 35,750
10. Ukraine 34,500
