Leroy Sané is getting closer and closer to his comeback after a long injury. But Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola is still holding back expectations.

Leroy Sané has made his comeback on the football pitch – albeit for the time being only in Manchester City’s U23 team.

But the German international will obviously have to wait a little longer for his comeback with the professionals.

Sané will also not be playing in the away game of the English FA Cup champions near Sheffield Wednesday.

“He’s not ready yet,” said City coach Pep Guardiola at a press conference on Tuesday. Sané’s 4-2 defeat by the Skyblues’ second team at the end of February was the first time Sané had been back in the game after rupturing his cruciate ligament.

Sané demands patience too
Further assignments in the junior team could follow. “Now it takes weeks and weeks and weeks of playing in the second team and maybe you’ll get a bet,” Guardiola explained.

Sané himself had also lowered expectations on the “small stage” after his return. “It’s still a long way to go until I’m at 100 per cent and at the level I was at before. The 24-year-old tore his cruciate ligament at the beginning of the season and has been out of action ever since. He plans to travel to the European Championship with the German national team this summer – at the latest then a possible change to FC Bayern should become a concrete topic again.
