In FC Watford’s victory over Liverpool FC, goalkeeper Ben Foster becomes a secret hero. And not only with his strong performance on the field.

With FC Watford, Ben Foster not only inflicted Liverpool FC’s first defeat of the season last weekend, he also gave a 12-year-old girl a memorable day.

In December, the Hornets’ goalkeeper visited little Molly Hall at her parents’ home and presented the wheelchair-bound girl with a signed jersey from her favourite club. On top of that, he announced that he would invite the whole family to the game against Liverpool at home on Vicarage Road.

“We’ll see if we can get you to be our mascot. That would be nice, because they arrive early and we can make a whole day out of it. We’ll definitely get some tickets,” he promised at the time.

At the weekend the time had finally come. Late Monday evening the club tweeted a video of over seven minutes that summed up Molly’s day with her idols. After a tour of the stadium, a visit to the dressing room and a meeting with the Watford pros, the big highlight finally followed: to the cheers of the fans, Foster pushed the girl across the pitch as a running-in child, both joking that they would leave tire marks on the pitch. The crowning finale was the handshake with the stars of the Reds.

“Ben Foster just keeps proving why he’s the nicest man in football,” Watford FC wrote under the video, and the 36-year-old also received praise from supporters in their comments.

That Foster has a particularly big heart, he proved only shortly before Christmas. On his way home from the game against Crystal Palace, he found a dementia-stricken Watford fan, whose car battery had died, helpless in a ditch and drove him home.
