Marcelo will probably have to walk more often in the near future. The Real Madrid defence lawyer will have to appear in court for driving without a licence.

Real Madrid’s Brazilian international Marcelo had to appear in court on Monday for driving without a valid driver’s license and driving at excessive speed.

The statement of the left defender of the Royal Family was taken up by the court. Marcelo “admitted the facts” and must now wait for a new date in court in March. Then the further legal course of action is to be decided, possibly there will be a summary trial.

According to the daily El Mundo, Marcelo was struck by lightning on December 19, 2019 at 134 km/h in a section of motorway limited to 120 km/h. Apparently Toni Kroos’ teammate did not have a valid driving licence, because he had previously committed numerous traffic offences.

In Spain there is a points system in relation to driving licences, points are deducted in the event of infringements. If there are zero points, the driver is no longer allowed to drive a car. In March 2013 Marcelo was also sentenced to a fine of 6000 euros for traffic offences.
