Munich – Emre Can and Erling Haaland are two important building blocks at Borussia Dortmund after only a short time. The Doppelpass round discusses their importance.

With Emre Can (from Juventus Turin) and Erling Haaland (from RB Salzburg), Borussia Dortmund has signed two absolute top reinforcements in winter.

While Haaland is breaking record after record in the offensive and is already causing a stir throughout Europe with his just 19 years of age, Can has already taken the lead in midfield.

“Haaland is an important component, but the more important one for me is Can,” expert Marcel Reif assessed the two winter newcomers of BVB in the CHECK24 double pass.

Can’s mentality was missing in Dortmund
“If it went well, it went so well at Dortmund, you didn’t have to worry. If it didn’t go well, then they lost, not just a dirty draw, they lost it. Because they had no one. Then we come back to the formulation mentality”, explains Reif.

With Can, you now have someone who makes the difference in just such situations.

“When the wind comes from the front – and it will come back again – you need someone with Can’s mentality,” the expert emphasizes: “Someone who thinks differently, who has this defensive thinking, who takes a team and then says, “Enough is enough, we can’t get it right with Trallala! We’ve got to grab the game and take it home.'”

That’s exactly what BVB has lacked so far – “and of course it has something to do with mentality”.

Veh: Haaland most important BVB transfer
Haaland or Can – who is more important? The former Cologne sports director Armin Veh disagrees with Reif. “The most important transfer for me is Haaland, I disagree with Marcel. If you really want to win titles, then you need someone to take pictures. And they didn’t have one.”

Veh also commented on Can and said: “He plays really well, he immediately takes responsibility for Dortmund. But why didn’t he work like that with Juventus and Liverpool?”
