Leverkusen – Bayer Leverkusen has no problems against FC Augsburg. Nadiem Amiri scores his first goal, Kai Havertz shows a strong performance and plays a dream pass.

The Champions League ambitions are underpinned, and the team keeps up in the championship race: Bayer 04 Leverkusen has continued to fly high.

Coach Peter Bosz’s team defeated their favourite opponent FC Augsburg after a defensively serious performance with well-deserved 2-0 (1-0). One of the main players of the deserved victory: Kai Havertz.

Havertz with dream pass
Bayer’s midfield star led his team in the absence of Lars Bender as captain and immediately took the lead. He prepared Moussa Diaby’s leading goal with a dream pass and showed a bearishly strong performance in other respects as well.

He pulled the strings in the centre and determined the game structure of the Werkself. About 20 minutes before the end he processed a high pass in an exemplary manner and chased the ball technically demanding to the crossbar of the guest goal.

“It felt good with the bandage on my arm,” said the German international at Sky. “I saw Diaby at 1-0. He’s very fast. I knew I could play the pass blind.”

Havertz continued his upward trend of the last weeks with this strong performance. After mixed performances in the first round – and difficult weeks due to change rumours – the 20-year-old now shows again why he is being chased by almost all top clubs in Europe. In the last six Bundesliga games he has prepared two goals and scored three himself.

The interest of the big clubs often seemed to have inhibited him before. “He’s not gone yet. We managed to get him to stay last summer,” said Leverkusen’s Managing Director Sport Rudi Völler before the match against Augsburg at Sky. “We’ll wait and see what happens next summer. It is clear that the number of requests has not diminished.
