Munich – Manchester City was banned from the Champions League for two years for breaches of financial fair play. The players are now to be compensated.
Manchester City is facing payments in the millions to its players after the club was excluded from the Champions League for the next two years due to non-compliance with UEFA rules of financial fair play.
According to the Daily Mail, many players have performance-related bonuses in their contracts, which are specifically geared to their performance in Europe’s premier league. Without the chance to perform in the Champions League, City must now find a way to compensate these players.
Big financial burden for ManCity
In some cases, this involves bonus payments of up to seven figures.
This represents a further financial burden for the Sheikh Club. In addition to the penalty of 30 million euros, City will have to reckon with a loss of income of around 300 million pounds (150 million per successful Champions League qualification) as a result of the suspension.
