RB Leipzig must inform UEFA by Monday whether the final of the Champions League against Liverpool can be played in their own arena.

RB Leipzig must inform the European Football Union (UEFA) by 8 February whether the quarter-finals match in the Football Champions League against FC Liverpool (16 February) can be played in the domestic arena. If this is not possible and if no replacement location is found, the lot is scored 0:3 from RB’s point of view.

“UEFA is in contact with the respective clubs and the German Football Association (DFB), which in turn have contact with the Federal Government,” UEFA announced.

On Monday, a spokeswoman for the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI) declared that there were “no exceptions for professional athletes for the time being” regarding the entry rules recently adopted for Germany to protect against corona mutations.

Germany has prohibited airlines from transporting persons from areas affected by coronavirus mutations to German territory until at least 17 February. Exceptions apply only to German citizens or persons residing in Germany.

UEFA stated that the home club would have to obtain an exemption if a team could not enter due to the measures in force. If the club does not receive such a special arrangement, the club in question must notify UEFA by 8 February.

If no exemption can be obtained, the club must propose an alternative venue. The host club remains responsible for the organization of the game and for all associated costs. If such a venue is not found, the club concerned will be held responsible for scoring the match 0-3 from the home team’s point of view.
