The Premier League clubs appeal to their players to adhere to the contact restrictions and not to host Christmas parties.

According to the Daily Mail, the Premier League clubs have explicitly advised their players not to celebrate Christmas.

Normally the players of the English clubs come together for festivities in December to prepare for the exhausting time around Boxing Day.

In England, sociable people are currently banned indoors, but up to six people can come together for a “business meeting” – a possible loophole for the players?

In the year of the coronavirus pandemic, however, a celebration would be a very bad idea, which is why the Premier League clubs and the EFL seemed to think it necessary to explicitly point this out to their players.

The reason may be that some professionals have handled their role model irresponsibly in the past.

Lampard: “Players have a big responsibility”
For example, Jadon Sancho, Bill Chillwell and Tammy Abraham celebrated a birthday party, while there were contact restrictions throughout the country. Another example: Jack Grealish and Ross Barkley from Aston Villa, who recently spent a fun evening in London and thus also violated the requirements.

Chelsea coach Frank Lampard appealed to the pros at a press conference: “Players bear great responsibility. They are a role model for the outside world. You have to do the right thing. Especially when they have so many games over Christmas. You have to live differently than the rest of society.”
