Argentina’s national coach Lionel Scaloni welcomes Lionel Messis to FC Barcelona.
It is “positive” that the superstar stayed with the Catalans this summer instead of joining a new team. “I talked to Leo when everything was sorted out and saw him relaxed,” Scaloni said before the World Cup qualifying match against Ecuador.
“Since his arrival, we have had a long conversation. He’s happy to be here. He’s fine at his club now. From afar, all we wanted was for everything to be sorted out, for him to play and be fit. It’s a good thing for us that he stayed, because he was able to play immediately, he knows the club. But as far as decisions are concerned, we do not interfere,” says the 42-year-old.
Regarding Messi’s position in Barcelona, Scaloni said: “Leo will always be a forward, whether he plays as a niner or in another position. I don’t think his position on the pitch in Barca has changed much, he still plays in front”.
World Cup 2022 last tournament for Messi
The 2022 World Cup will be the last for Messi, who participated in four World Championships. When the tournament takes place in Qatar, it will be 35 years old.
