UEFA wants to admit up to 20,000 spectators to the Supercup between Bavaria and Seville and is increasingly criticised for this. A Bavarian fan finds hard words at SPORT1. UEFA
still has time to cancel a game that raises ever greater questions.
Can you actually host the Supercup match between FC Bavaria and FC Sevilla in Budapest? 20,000 viewers? In a city that was declared a risk area only a few days ago by the Robert Koch Institute? In the capital of Hungary, which reported a record number of 1070 new corona cases on Sunday?
A few questions could easily be added to the list. So far, however, there are no official signs either from Budapest or Nyon that would suggest a change in the plan.
This means that the Supercup game on Thursday evening at 9 p.m. is intended to signal the start of normalisation in European football after the long Corona break. In a pilot project of UEFA, the stadium in Budapest will be filled with up to 20,000 spectators.
So much for the plan that the European Football Association announced a few weeks ago, but that is why it is now being blown in the face by an ever-growing headwind.
Söder: “Don’t risk a football jerk”
Bavaria’s Prime Minister is now urging fans of the record champion to refrain from travelling to the Hungarian capital and refers to the high number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants.
