The two faces of Timo Werner

Timo Werner makes a successful debut at Chelsea FC. Trainer Frank Lampard is also satisfied. But it’s just a first step.

Fast action and freezing at the finish, these are Timo Werner’s well-known qualities in front of the goal. Fast-paced and somewhat unconcentrated, this is also what Timo Werner tends to do in the opposing penalty area.

Both scenarios were seen on Werner’s debut for Chelsea.

In the friendly against Brighton & Hove Albion (1:1), the 24-year-old took only four minutes to score his first goal for the blues. A few minutes later he headed a free kick flank of Hakim Ziyech completely free-standing clearly above the box.

To his honour it should be mentioned that the header game is not necessarily one of the proven strengths of the 1.81 meter attacker. His new coach Frank Lampard was therefore very satisfied with the appearance of his new arrival, for which Chelsea transferred 53 million euros to RB Leipzig.

Lampard praises Werner after his Chelsea debut

“Timo was very perceptive and clever,” Lampard praised his new protégé. “He scored his goal very early in the game, he showed some of the qualities that I know very well that he has, so I’m very happy to have him in the squad.

” The former midfield strategist added, “I thought his workload and everything around it was a great start for him.”
