FCB boss with special praise for Goretzka

After his outstanding season with FC Bayern, Robert Lewandowski now has the chance to be named best player of the year after all.

According to Bild, FIFA confirmed that a world footballer’s election would be held – and with it the statements of FCB Chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge: “According to the FIFA President, this award is to take place. Gianni Infantino told me that the award will be given to the best player, the best player and the best coach,” Rummenigge revealed in the kicker: “This is very much to be welcomed.

Lewandowski is considered a favourite for the award: the Polish striker won the Bundesliga title with the German record champions and became top scorer with 34 goals. In the Champions League, the 31-year-old is in the semi-finals with the Munich team (Champions League: Olympique Lyon – FC Bayern, Wed. from 9 p.m. on the live ticker) and leads the scorer’s list both in terms of goals (14) and assists (5).
