Miroslav Klose will take over an assistant coach position under Hansi Flick for the coming season. The Bayern coach has special expectations of the former striker.

In a squad full of world-class players at FC Bayern, an assistant coach does not usually stand out.

However, this is not the case for the record scorer and 2014 world champions Miroslav Klose.

Bayern coach Hansi Flick added the 42-year-old to his coaching staff for the coming season, having previously coached the U17s in the Bayern youth team.

But before Klose can get off to a flying start with the Bayern pros, he must first return to school. In Hennef, at the DFB’s Hennes-Weisweiler Academy, the former attacker has been attending the soccer teacher training course since June 2020.

Klose benefits from changed trainer training
Klose recently explained this step: “Those who know me know that I always want to achieve the best possible education in my life. That’s why I’m really looking forward to the soccer teacher training course and to being able to take the next important step in my coaching education.

Unlike in previous years, however, the DFB has reformed its trainer training so that Klose and other participants no longer have to spend as many days at the academy. Instead of the previous 81 days, the attendance phase is now only 61 days, but the training also takes eleven months instead of nine.

And yet this innovation helps the former Bayern striker in his work as co-trainer of Flick. “I expect Miro to bring his experience to the team. But that’s the way I know him,” Flick outlined his demands on Klose at the press conference on Sunday: “With his vast international experience, whether in international matches or in international leagues, he brings a tremendous amount of weight to the team.
