After a two-year dry spell, Real Madrid are again Spanish champions. Karim Benzema becomes the winner of the match, a penalty kick causes excitement.

Real Madrid beat arch-rivals FC Barcelona and celebrate the Spanish championship for the first time since 2017. It is the 34th championship title in the club’s glorious history.

Against FC Villarreal, Karim Benzema became the match winner. The Frenchman scored Real in the first half (29th) on masterstroke. In the second half he increased his score by a penalty kick (77.). The Royal team still conceded the follow-up goal by Iborra (84.) – but did not wobble any more and won 2-1 (1-0).

“This is a price for our work, especially after the restart. It deserves respect,” said Real captain Sergio Ramos after the game. “It’s all a bit strange this year, but we were determined to win the championship and we saw the game as a final.”

The 34-year-old had one extra word of praise for coach Zinedine Zidane: “He is our patron, we believe in Zizou.”

FC Barcelona are defeated by Osasuna
For 30-year-old Toni Kroos it is the second Real jersey championship, for the Royal it is only the third in the last twelve years.

“We are very happy. The championship was the goal at the beginning of the season. We hadn’t won it for three years. That bothered us. You could see that in the games and we were eager to win the title,” said Kroos according to RealTotal. “We didn’t always play well, but we always performed as a team. In the end, we earned the league title.”

Four of the latest five league titles were won by eternal rivals FC Barcelona, including last season’s one.

The defending champions suffered their first defeat since the restart on Thursday evening, when they lost 2-1 (0-1) to CA Osasuna. For Osasuna, Spain’s Jose Arnaiz (16th) was successful at Camp Nou before superstar Lionel Messi (62nd) equalised with a directly converted free kick. The visitors finished the game after the red card against Enric (75.) with only ten men.
