In order to avoid large crowds in the centre of Madrid, Real Madrid is calling on its fans to exercise restraint in the event of an early championship.

Spain’s top club Real Madrid is asking its fans to exercise restraint. Rio world champions Toni Kroos’ team have issued a statement calling on fans not to congregate at Madrid’s Plaza de Cibeles if they win the title.

Real will have the opportunity to secure their 34th championship in club history ahead of schedule with a win against FC Villarreal on Thursday. The royals announced that the team would not be able to meet at the Plaza de Cibeles either if they won the title.

Rising infection rates in Spain again
“We ask the fans not to gather. We must all help to minimize the risk of COVID-19 infection,” the statement said. “We want to win titles so we can celebrate them with our fans. But we are aware that the times we live in force us to take the necessary precautions.”

In Spain, coronavirus-related infections are on the rise again.
