According to French media reports, he was shot and killed early Monday morning outside a nightclub in Toulouse. The Spurs officially confirmed the news at midday.
The tragic incident is said to have occurred at five o’clock in the morning, and Christopher Aurier was pronounced dead in hospital.
Residents had called the police when a man was found with a bullet wound in his stomach – any help came too late. There is no information on the perpetrator yet, the police have started a search.
“The club is deeply saddened and confirms media reports that Serge Aurier’s brother died in the early hours of this morning. “Everyone at the club sends its deepest sympathy to Serge and his family. Our thoughts are with them all,” Spurs said in a short statement on Twitter.
Like his brother, the man from the Ivory Coast was a footballer, playing for Toulouse Rodeo in the fifth French league. But the 26-year-old did not want to make the big breakthrough.
Serge Aurier is now a regular on the Spurs. Just hours before his brother’s death, he was celebrating his team’s 2-1 victory over Arsenal FC in the Premier League.
