What Coman Sané has ahead

After the signing of Leroy Sané, Kingsley Coman is nominally only Bavaria’s number two left-winger for the time being. But he can do things that Sané is not so good at.

Kingsley Coman has it: the seal of approval of maximum appreciation. Despite Leroy Sané.

Because according to Sport Bild, Hasan Salihamidzic, who recently became head of sports at FC Bayern, has explicitly declared Coman “not for sale”. Pep Guardiola and Manchester City would have loved to have welcomed the Frenchman to the island as a means of settling the transfer from Sané to Munich.

But the Bavarians resisted the advances of City sports director Txiki Begiristain – even though they had just signed Sané for the left wing position that Coman had previously been allowed to hold. There are good reasons for this.

“Leroy is a player with a difference and his quality will strengthen our team,” Salihamidzic said after the latest transfer coup, but added: “With Serge Gnabry, Kingsley Coman and Leroy, we now have a flexible, top-quality team on the sidelines, which is important for our game.

It’s precisely this flexibility that would have been lost if Bayern Coman had let go. His strengths complement those of the Sanés.

If you compare the Opta data of both players from the 2018/19 season (Sané had to retire almost completely in the following season due to his cruciate ligament injury), the core competences of both attackers can be quickly grasped.
