Manchester City lose to Ralph Hasenhüttl’s FC Southampton with a crazy long-range goal. Champion Liverpool redeeming himself for the ManCity gossip.

A 40-metre dream goal has given Pep Guardiola a surprising defeat with Manchester City.

The Citizens lost 1-0 (0-1) to Ralph Hasenhüttl’s FC Southampton with a sensational long-range goal from Che Adams (16th). It was the former Bundesliga coach’s first win in his sixth duel with the Catalans, but he was left on shaky ground for a long time due to numerous chances of the favourites.

It was the first time in his coaching career that Guardiola lost three consecutive away games. In championship years 2018 and 2019 “we were a machine in terms of games and results, this season the results were not good,” Guardiola admitted after the ninth defeat of the season. “We performed well here, but it wasn’t enough and we lost games in the league this way. If it happens a few times, it’s not a coincidence and it happened a few times.”

Liverpool are struggling to win at home…
Prior to that, the newly crowned champions Liverpool FC had won their first home game since the title was fixed, a painstaking victory.

Jürgen Klopp’s team beat relegation contender Aston Villa 2-0 (0-0) and maintained their flawless home record.

Klopp does not believe in records
“All I can say is that you have no chance of setting records if you are constantly thinking about records,” Klopp said at Sky Sports. For his team it was the 17th victory in the 17th home game. Never before has a team in the Premier League been able to win all 19 home games of a season. Chelsea FC achieved 18 home wins in a row in 2005/06, Manchester United 2010/11 and ManCity twice (2011/12 and 2018/19).

“We don’t want a record, we want the three points,” Klopp stressed. “We don’t think about these things, three points are hard enough. Aston Villa fought with everything they had and that made life difficult for us. It wasn’t a brilliant performance, but it was a good one that got us three points.”
