Timo Werner renounces his participation in the Champions League quarter finals with RB Leipzig. In an interview the future Chelsea player explains why.

Timo Werner has declared his renouncement of his participation in the Champions League quarter finals with RB Leipzig.

“Of course it hurts me that I can’t help to make the big thing happen now. But I’m also a Chelsea player from 1 July and I’m paid by Chelsea,” the goalscorer said in an interview with the sports buzzster.

It was clear to him “that all parties – Chelsea, RB and my side – should and must settle this. Of course I tried to keep out of the Champions League as much as possible because it was clear that I would have to take a side. That’s why my advisor finally agreed it with the clubs.”

Werner hopes to visit Lisbon

Werner will watch the tournament in Lisbon in August with a weeping eye.

“I’m forever connected to Leipzig and RB, sit in front of the TV and keep my fingers crossed for the quarter finals – maybe I can even be there in Lisbon,” said Werner.
