FA Cup: Joke appearance around De Bruyne

After the FA Cup match between Newcastle and Manchester City, coach Steve Bruce makes a joking appearance – much to the chagrin of Kevin de Bruyne.

On his 29th birthday Kevin de Bruyne gave himself a present: In the quarter-finals of the FA Cup at Newcastle United, he scored the saving 1-0 for Manchester City on penalties, before Raheem Sterling put the final touch on 89 minutes.

After the game, however, the Belgian international witnessed scenes that seemed unpleasant to him. While the former Bremen and Wolfsburg native was chatting to the media in the mixed zone, Newcastle coach Steve Bruce came around the corner – and more than just upset the game designer in his interviews.

Bruce: “He’s had enough of Manchester City”
The opposing coach intervened in the discussions and jokingly claimed that De Bruyne would sign with Newcastle next season. Fittingly, the 59-year-old tried to force the superstar into a Newcastle jersey – obviously against his will.

Putting his arm around the midfielder, Bruce continued to joke: “He will stay here and come here. This is an exclusive coming out of Newcastle tonight.” Bruce went on to shout to the media. “He’s had enough of Manchester City. He’ll come and play for Newcastle.”

Big transfers like Bale or Kane after takeover?
Despite this rather embarrassing performance by the head coach, Newcastle may soon be able to attract calibres like De Bruyne. The club is currently waiting for permission to sell shares worth around 340 million euros to the Saudi royal family.

There is much criticism of the planned takeover. If the purchase works out, however, all sorts of big names are already circulating around St. James Park. Recently, stars like Gareth Bale or Harry Kane appeared in connection with the club.
