FC Barcelona is not going to be left out in the long-distance duel with Real Madrid for the Spanish championship. The win against Athletic Bilbao, however, is extremely close.
FC Barcelona have once again presented in the fight for the Spanish championship.
The Catalans, with national goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, beat Athletic Bilbao 1-0 (0-0) in Camp Nou and past Real Madrid to reach the top of the table. The Royal side can reclaim first place on Wednesday with a win over Real Mallorca.
Ivan Rakitic (71st) scored the winning goal after world footballer Lionel Messi had presented it. Barcelona, who remained without conceding a goal in their fourth game after the Corona forced interval, struggled for a long time and delivered an uninspired performance for most of the match. Only after the lead did coach Quique Setién’s team stand a chance.
Atletico Madrid moved past FC Sevilla and into third place. Coach Diego Simeone’s side won 1-0 (1-0) at UD Levante thanks to an own goal from Bruno (15th). The lead over Sevilla is two points.
