Leroy Sané celebrates his comeback for Manchester City against FC Burnley. Even before his substitution, his team-mates present themselves in gala form.

Manchester City celebrated a gala victory at Leroy Sané’s comeback.

The Citizens defeated FC Burnley in Monday’s game of the English Premier League clearly 5-0, with Sané substituted in the 79th minute.

At that point, Pep Guardiola’s side were already 5-0 winners: youngsters Phil Foden (22nd, 63rd), for whom Sané came into the game, and Riyad Mahrez (43rd, 45th +3/foul penalty) both scored twice, with David Silva (51st) scoring the goal to make it 4-0.

“Back at last,” Sané tweeted shortly after the final whistle. “I really missed this.”

Manchester City delayed Liverpool’s championship celebrations
The win by the runners-up also means that Liverpool FC’s championship celebrations will be further delayed.

Because Jürgen Klopp’s team only managed a 0-0 win in the derby at FC Everton on Sunday, the lead at the top of the table is “only” 20 points.

Even if Liverpool beat Crystal Palace at home on Wednesday, the title would still be in doubt, and the Citizens could only be sure of their title with a slip-up at Chelsea FC on Thursday.

Sané makes comeback, Gündogan 90 minutes on the bench
For Sané, the short game against Burnley was his first game after a torn cruciate ligament and a 323-day break. Ilkay Gündogan, who had last played through a 3-0 win over FC Arsenal, was on the bench for 90 minutes.

Guardiola had declared last Friday that Sané will leave the Citizens no later than summer 2021.
