Regulars have molted. His future is more open than ever.

It was at the end of May 2019 when the Bavarians won their seventh consecutive championship title and Uli Hoeneß, then still president, said of Jérôme Boateng: “He seems like a foreign body. As a friend, I would advise him to find a new club.

The central defender was virtually united with Juventus Turin before this season, but a move to the Italians failed at the last minute. A year later, the Munich team should be happy about this. The 31-year-old has experienced a remarkable renaissance under Hansi Flick.

Away from the barely noticed bench press, he became an indispensable regular alongside David Alaba. Most recently, he prepared Robert Lewandowski’s winning goal at Werder Bremen with a dream pass and shone with outstanding positional play in defence.

Boateng under Flick again
Since the change of coach at the beginning of November, Boateng has completed 1636 compulsory minutes of play. The former international worked on his fitness during the winter break, lost several kilos and already presented himself in top form at the winter training camp in Doha, Qatar. Just as Flick had demanded of him. Yoga and private fitness trainers helped him to do so.

Boateng himself still hardly says a word about his development and his future. According to his working paper he is still bound to the Munich team until 2021. And according to information, it is by no means impossible that he will fulfill this contract.

Boateng feels at home with the people of Munich again, especially since Flick took over the helm. Not only Flick is proud of his resurrection, but also Boateng’s girlfriend Kasia Lenhardt.
