Timo Werner’s move to Chelsea FC is official. In the blues, the national player is to be promoted directly to top earners.

Timo Werner’s move to Chelsea FC is finally under wraps.

This was confirmed by both clubs on Thursday morning, the national striker receives a “long-term contract” with the Blues. The parties have agreed not to disclose details of the bill of exchange.

As reported by Bild, the 24-year-old’s contract runs until 2025, with a redemption fee of 53 million euros according to an exit clause, and Werner will rise to become the top earner among Londoners with annual earnings of over ten million euros.

Werner thus replaces his national team colleague Leroy Sané as the most expensive German footballer in history.

“I look forward to signing with Chelsea. It is a very proud moment for me to join this great club. Of course I want to thank RB Leipzig, the club and the fans, for four fantastic years,” Werner said on the Chelsea homepage. “You will be in my heart forever. I am looking forward to next season with my new team mates, my new coach and of course the Chelsea fans. Together we have a very successful future ahead of us.”

Abroad “always” Werner’s dream
On Leipzig’s homepage, he added: “It was clear to me that my next step would be to go abroad – that has always been my dream. So it’s not a decision against RB Leipzig, but for my dream to play in the Premier League – the strongest league in the world. And now I get the chance to take the next step with a top European club. I’m really looking forward to this new adventure, the atmosphere and football in England.”

The 24-year-old, whom coach Frank Lampard is said to have convinced of a change in several meetings and telephone calls, is likely to become the face of the much younger team.

Krösche wants to replace Werner in the long term

The Blues are still fighting for the ticket to the Champions League as fourth, at RB Leipzig they are finished after 93 goals in 157 games after this season.
