BVB has long been known for having a good nose for top talent. We took a closer look at the youngsters from the second row.

Borussia Dortmund is currently struggling with personnel issues. In Borussia Dortmund’s 1-0 win over Hertha BSC, seven players without any significant Bundesliga experience were sitting on the bench in Dortmund alone.

“We have a squad of 22 players with some young players. We also have a few injuries,” Favre explained after the game.

But who are the youngsters? We took a closer look at the talents from the Dortmund reserve squad.

Tobias Raschl (20)
The former U19 captain is in his first “apprenticeship year” with the professionals. He has been training in the first team since the summer and quickly settled into the team structure: “The boys made it very easy for me, they quickly gave me the feeling that I really belonged,” said Raschl in Ruhrnachrichten.

Whether the midfield strategist will be able to prove himself against the strong competition in the future is not yet clear. Despite the current five changing options that Favre has had since the restart after the Corona break, he is still waiting for his Bundesliga debut.

Mateu Morey (20)
In the summer of 2019, the legal defender came to BVB from the talent factory of FC Barcelona without being replaced and currently has a contract until 2024. After protracted injury problems (meniscus damage, shoulder dislocation), Mateu Morey celebrated his Bundesliga debut for BVB in the 6-1 win over SC Paderborn – and in just three minutes indicated his enormous potential.
