Timo Werner is facing a transfer from RB Leipzig to FC Chelsea. There he will meet a team in rebuilding – in which he is supposed to fill a big gap.
FC Bayern? FC Liverpool? FC Chelsea!
Timo Werner, currently Germany’s best striker, is about to transfer from RB Leipzig to the English Premier League. He is to join Frank Lampard’s team at Stamford Bridge and become a team mate of DFB colleague Antonio Rüdiger.
The Blues want to pay the 60 million euro redemption fee, which is included in Werner’s exit clause.
The 24-year-old Werner would follow in the footsteps of Michael Ballack, who played for the London club from 2006 to 2010, then as now financed by Russian billionaire Roman Abramowitsch.
How does Chelsea look ten years later? How should Werner fit in?
– The situation and ambitions of Chelsea FC:
Chelsea were last crowned English champions in 2017, but in the past few seasons dominated by Pep Guardiolas Manchester City, the club have fallen considerably under both master coach Antonio Conte and successor Maurizio Sarri.
Club legend Lampard took over in the summer and exceeded expectations. Chelsea are fourth in the Premier League standings, due to be restarted on 17 June, although Chelsea were unable to strengthen their position over the summer due to a transfer ban and therefore had to allow for a transitional year.
Lampard saw the problem as an opportunity, relying on young players who held their own, and now, by engaging the right stars in the concept, he hopes to find a suitable mix to attack further up the ladder.
