FC Schalke continues to push ahead with personnel planning. Schalke lets Todibo clause expire.
FC Schalke is going through hard times. The club is financially hard hit and cannot convince on the pitch.
The team is more and more in the line of fire after the disappointing performances in the second half of the season. “We will draw the right conclusions from this crisis and make the necessary decisions in the summer,” explained Schalke’s Sports Director Jochen Schneider after the 1-0 defeat to Werder Bremen at the weekend.
And a decision has apparently already been made with regard to personnel. As Schneider confirmed on Waz.de, the club let a purchase option for central defender Jean-Clair Todibo go unused. The 20-year-old is therefore expected to return to FC Barcelona at the end of the season. The decision comes as no surprise, as the fixed redemption sum of 25 million euros for the Royal Blues would be hard to raise at the moment.
During the Corona break, Todibo had declared that he could well imagine staying in Gelsenkirchen. Recently, however, he had been publicly criticized by coach David Wagner after a serious mistake in the Bremen game.
