Idol before starting eleven comeback in derby

Because Axel Witsel and Emre Can are cancelled for Saturday at Dortmund, Götze could benefit. An ex-colleague advises him to change to England after the season.

After 66 days, the Bundesliga continues on Saturday with a bang: BVB receives FC Schalke 04 in the first Ruhrspott-Geister-Derby in history, and it looks as if world champion Mario Götze will move into the starting eleven.

Because Emre Can and Axel Witsel (both suspected of having torn a muscle fibre) and Marco Reus (rehab after an adductor injury) have dropped out, the Rio hero could suddenly find himself in Lucien Favre’s starting lineup. It would be Goetz’s first starting eleven appearance since 20 December 2019, and just before Christmas the attacker replaced his colleague Reus in Hoffenheim 1:2 and scored his last BVB goal to date.

148 days later, the hour of the 2014 World Cup goalscorer could strike again. Under Favre, Götze is currently in a difficult position, having only managed 501 Bundesliga minutes this season. Götze is under contract in Dortmund until the end of the season, but will definitely leave the black and yellow team without a replacement. Does his path lead to England?

Höjbjerg suggests Götze Premier League
Former teammate Pierre-Emile Höjbjerg (24), who won the DFB Cup with Götze and FC Bayern 2014 (2-0 against Dortmund), is certainly tempting.

“I think Mario would love it in England. He is still a world-class player. I’m sure the league would love to have him here.” The Dane adds with a smile: “But I would advise him not to get too close to me in this case, because I would give him a hard time. I apologise in advance.”

According to information, a transfer to the island is indeed not impossible. Top consultant Reza Fazeli is currently sounding out the market and, although he has his contacts mainly in Spain and Italy, loose talks with England clubs are said to have already been held.

But does the former international really fit into the robust Premier League? England expert Nizaar Kinsella (Goal reporter) recently said: “The Bundesliga is certainly the closest to the Premier League. Mario is a technically strong but small player. I fear that he would have his problems here. He would need a team where he was protected by his teammates.

“Arsenal might suit Idol”
That is why the journalist suggests he switch to FC Arsenal. “Arsenal might suit him. “They won’t play in the Champions League next year either. Götze would have a bit more time to adapt. Arsenal is still an attractive and technically strong team that plays beautiful combination football.”
