In Spanish top soccer, the ball is expected to roll again in June, despite the corona crisis. As the national league association announced on Monday, both the first and second leagues are to resume play in empty stadiums next month.
But what happens if the association’s ambitious goals cannot be implemented in the country badly affected by the coronavirus pandemic? One possibility would be for FC Barcelona to be declared champions in La Liga before the interruption.
Thibaut Courtois hopes that this scenario will not happen under any circumstances – and in his view has plausible reasons for this.
“We are only two points behind Barcelona, so it is still possible that we will be champions,” the Real Madrid goalkeeper told Belgian television. “It would be unfair to cancel the season and let Barcelona become champions.”
