Jorgelina Cardoso, wife of PSG striker Ángel Di María, found her husband’s interim transfer to Manchester United a terrible imposition.

“Valdas, I love you, but I can’t live in Wolfsburg,” Beatrix Ivanauskas is said to have once told her husband, thereby preventing a transfer from Hamburger SV to their northern rivals.
Jorgelina Cardoso, wife of Argentinian star striker Ángel Di María, obviously had similar reservations when her husband moved from Real Madrid to Manchester United in 2014. She was unable to prevent the move of Di María, who is now playing for Paris Saint-Germain under Thomas Tuchel. In return, she now reckons all the more bitterly with the city of Manchester and the whole of England.

“I said to him: Go to any country you want – except England,” the 37-year-old recalls in an interview with the Argentinean tabloid talk show Los Angeles de la Mañana (“The Angels of the Morning”).
In her not-at-all angelic review, Cardoso refers to bad experiences she had when she visited Diego Maradona’s daughter Gianinna, the wife of long-time Manchester City striker Serio Agüero. The city of Manchester would not have made a good impression: “It was terrible! A shithole!”
When Di María moved to United anyway, Cardoso remained unforgiving: “I didn’t like anything there, not one thing! The women were all pale and stuffy. You walk down the street thinking, “Are they going to kill you or what? The food is disgusting. And the women all dressed up to the nines – while I walked around with no make-up and no bun.”

Why Di María, despite her protests, did not let herself be deterred from moving to England? Cardoso is open-hearted there too.
“There was a lot of money involved”, she explains: “In Spain they called us money grabbers – and they were right! If you have a job and a rival company offers you double – of course you’ll switch!”
