Eight years ago, when FC Bayern beat the Royal of Real on penalties in Madrid, the otherwise stoic star coach José Mourinho lost his temper.

Jose Mourinho is considered a cool dog in the football business – but once “The Special One” shed tears because of the German record champion Bayern Munich.

“The night Bayern kicked us out on penalties in the Champions League was the only time in my career that I cried after a defeat,” the current team manager of Tottenham Hotspur told Spanish sports daily Marca.

Bavaria defeated Real on penalties
In April 2012, the Bavarians had won the semi-final of the premier class 3-1 on penalties at Mourinho’s former club Real Madrid, with Sergio Ramos, among others, taking a memorable miss from the point.

The Munich team, then coached by Jupp Heynckes, reached the “Final dahoam” against Chelsea FC and lost – also very tearful.

Mourinho and his assistant coach Aitor Karanka sat in the car in front of his house and wept after the dramatic semi-final at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. “It was very hard because we were actually the best in Europe that year,” said the Portuguese.
