FC Barcelona again makes a serious mistake in the exciting title race in Spain’s La Liga. The Catalans squander a clear lead at UD Levante.

Despite a clear lead, FC Barcelona has made the next serious slip in the title race in La Liga.

The Catalans squandered an interim two-goal lead at UD Levante and in the end could not get beyond a 3-3 (2-0) draw.

As a result, Ronald Koeman’s team missed out on the top spot. Barca moved into second place for the time being and are now one point behind leaders Atlético Madrid, but the Catalans have managed just one win in their past four games.

Messi and Co. squander clear half-time lead

On Tuesday night in Valencia, Lionel Messi (25th) with a spectacular side-footed shot and Pedri (34th) after preparation by ex-BVB attacker Ousmane Dembélé put FC Barcelona supposedly comfortably in front.

But the hosts equalized with a double strike from Gonzalo Melero (57th) and Jose Morales (59th). Dembélé (64th), however, had the appropriate answer ready with the lead goal again. But in the final phase, Levante struck a third time in the person of Sergio Leon (83rd) against national goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen.

Levante secured their place in the league with a surprising point.
