The current incumbent Claus Vogt of the football league VfB Stuttgart will compete against Pierre-Enric Steiger in the forthcoming presidential election. As the Swabians announced on Tuesday, Vogt and Steiger were nominated by the Association Board for the elections at the General Assembly on 18 July.

Vogt was elected President of the VfB in December 2019. The 51-year-old had to struggle in his career with the clarification of the data affair as well as an internal power struggle against CEO Thomas Hitzlsperger. The Association Advisory Board justified the nomination with a “sound and self-critical analysis”, Vogt also initiated important projects such as women’s football and the position paper “Future professional football”.

Steiger had meanwhile convinced the panel “with detailed knowledge of the VfB and its departments as well as a high motivation for the office”. As President of the Björn-Steiger Foundation, the 49-year-old brought “good connections to business, politics and society” and also presented interesting ideas and concepts.

“As an association advisory board, we are pleased to be able to elect two people with different profiles to our members,” said Rainer Weninger, chairman of the association advisory board.
