UEFA has provisionally postponed the decision on a possible Champions League reform. The final decision is scheduled for 19 April.

The European Football Union (UEFA) has provisionally postponed the decision on a possible Champions League reform. The Association announced that the Executive Committee would not take a final decision on the Innovation Plans until its meeting on 19 April.

Originally, the reform was due to be adopted on Wednesday, but the distribution of funds in the new royal class has not yet finally resolved a point of dispute.

The SID can confirm corresponding reports from The Athletic. Both the ECA Board and the Steering Committee did not reach an agreement on the commercial rights of competition at their meetings at the beginning of the week. On the other hand, there is largely clarity about the profound sporting changes criticised by the fans.

From 2024, an increase from 32 to 36 teams and an increase in the number of games in the preliminary round, which is to be replaced by the so-called “Swiss model”, are planned. In addition, there will be two to three starting places in the ten-year leaderboard of the clubs. Thus, clubs that have not qualified through the league would benefit from their successes of past days.
