Sergio Agüero came as Maradona’s son-in-law and leaves as the legend of Manchester City. The Argentinian leaves his mark not only because of his many goals.

Bobby Moore has one, so does Sir Matt Busby, Bill Shankly, and Sir Alex Ferguson anyway.

Whom the British worship, in most cases they immortalize with a statue. It’s the same in football.

For this reason alone, Sergio Agüero can imagine it when a monument will soon be made by him – of course in front of Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium. The club for which the striker has scored goals on the assembly line in the past ten years.

With the 32-year-old, however, two small but not unimportant details are added. He was the son-in-law of Diego Maradona when he moved to Manchester.

Memories of Maradona and Mexico These are not necessarily the best conditions to gain a foothold on the
island. After all, political relations between the two countries were tense for a long time, mainly because of the Falkland crisis. And even 35 years after the “Hand of God” and the Century Gate in the World Cup quarter-finals of Mexico, the name Maradona still brings bad memories to many Englishmen.

The fact that Agüero still receives this great honour after his now well-known farewell to the summer says a lot about his popularity in England as a player and human being.

ManCity’s announcement of a statue to honour him is by no means the only tribute the striker has received in his second home country.
