Chelsea FC has been below expectations so far this season. Also because Timo Werner hardly meets. Ex-coach Ralph Hasenhüttl explains why.

Chelsea actually wanted to get back in the lead in the championship race this season.

Instead, the blues are stuck in the midfield of the table.

In eighth place, the gap to Manchester United is already eleven points.

Lampard: Werner and Co. “not gate machines”
And that despite the fact that the London club spent over 200 million euros on new entrants in the summer. Among them came Timo Werner, a new goalkeeper.

So far, however, the German has not been able to meet the expectations linked to his high redemption (53 million). The 24-year-old only made four appearances in the Premier League.

This is another reason why Chelsea manager Frank Lampard recently said after losing 0-2 to Leicester City: “We don’t have the kind of players in these positions that the club used to have. The players who are goal machines or assist machines that win games for you.”

Hasenhüttl: Lampard misuses Werner
According to former coach Ralph Hasenhüttl, the fact that Werner is not a goal machine at Chelsea is also due to Lampard’s use of the former Leipzig player. The Austrian told the metro: “I know Timo very well and have seen him in situations where he was not good. Mostly it’s because the game doesn’t suit him. I don’t think the team is playing in such a way that they can do their best.”

In fact, Werner plays a different role in Lampard’s system from RB Leipzig. If the attacker was still used by the Saxons as part of a double tip, he usually acts on the left wing at Chelsea.
