Liverpool’s coach Jürgen Klopp’s criticism of TV channels, kick-off times and changing rules triggers contradictions in England. A TV expert addresses him personally.

It was just a 1:1 draw.

“Different, peaceful” are reporter phrases commonly heard after a draw. But this draw between Brighton & Hove Albion and Liverpool FC did not fit into this category at all.

This became clear at the latest when Red’s coach Jürgen Klopp got the microphone of the broadcasting station BT Sport under his nose.

His verbal cover made headlines in the British press this weekend. It was about early kick-off times, the injury penalty in his team and the still valid rule that only three players can be replaced instead of the usual five players in most other competitions.

Of course, Klopp’s anger did not go unnoticed. And not everyone agreed with the view of the 53-year-old German.

TV expert Sutton criticizes Klopp
Chris Sutton, for example. As a professional, he was part of Celtic Glasgow’s successful team led by Henrik Larsson, who was in the final of the UEFA Cup in 2003. As a TV expert, he has also earned the reputation of a keen observer of the industry on the island for several years.

“Sorry Jürgen – that’s not how it works,” wrote the 47-year-old, who apparently felt personally addressed as an expert at BT Sport, in his column in the Daily Mail: “The fact that the coach of FC Liverpool blames BT Sport for the injury to James Milner is simply shameful.”
