Mesut Özil continues to make huge savings at FC Arsenal. The former world champion was probably also able to look forward to a million bonus.
Mesut Özil no longer plays a role in FC Arsenal. On March 7, 2020, Özil had his last assignment for the Gunners.
Nevertheless, the 2014 World Champion continues to collect massive amounts of coal in London, and at around £350,000 a week, he is considered the team’s top servant.
Now, apparently, there was also a loyalty bonus. As The Athletic reports, Özil was pleased to receive an additional payment of £8 million at the end of September.
This clause has therefore been in Özil’s contract since its renewal in January 2018.
Perhaps the prospect of this bonus has further confirmed Özil in staying with Arsenal in the summer despite his lack of chances at Mikel Arteta.
Most recently, the 31-year-old didn’t even make it into the Europa League squad. His contract expires next summer.
