A primary school student from Dublin stands out at a Manchester City jersey design competition. When it comes to club love, Lucy-Beth’s on the hook.

Who would have thought that? A primary school student from Dublin won a design contest for the Manchester City jersey. The

contest initiated by citizen sponsor Puma had triggered more than 1,000 entries from around the world – but in the end Lucy-Beth’s proposal won.

The nine-year-old convinced the jury with her model in a sky blue, white and pink look, which her favorite player Sergio Agüero now introduced – and also presented the young Irishman with the corresponding prize.

Lucy-Beth got a limited edition of her jersey design signed by Agüero with her name on the back and a framed picture of her competition entry.

“I chose to participate because I like to draw and paint. Because it was Man City, I thought it was perfect for me,” the girl said on the City website.

Because: Lucy-Beth comes from a soccer-crazy family of city fans who travel especially from Ireland to the games of coach Pep Guardiola’s star ensembles at Etihad Stadium. That’s not all: The family house resembles a fan “cave” decorated with city devotionals, writes English media.

When designing her jersey, Lucy-Beth had concrete ideas from the outset: “I chose this design because they already have stripes – and I just thought I’d rather have a splash of color, so I made the stripes on the inside.”
