Joshua Kimmich decides the Supercup with his strength of will. His path seems already predetermined – but even his coach fears his mentality.

After Joshua Kimmich’s 3-2 victory goal, most football fans and experts agreed: they hadn’t seen such a goal yet.

That the midfielder of FC Bayern conquered the ball in the Supercup against Borussia Dortmund in the 82nd minute of the game in the midfield – the observers got used to that. That he failed with his shot from a short distance to BVB keeper Marwin Hitz a few seconds later – can happen. But that Kimmich then worked the ball lying over heat – that was extraordinary.

Flick fears “special” mentality from Kimmich
A hit of the will that once again revealed the strengths of the 25-year-old. He led Bavaria to the fifth title in 2020. The mentality monster went ahead once again and showed will to win, which not all actors on the square embodied.

“As long as I know him, his mentality is special,” Bavarian coach Hansi Flick nobled his loudspeaker after the game on Wednesday evening: “He is on a really good way to shape the team.”

After the departure of Thiago, Kimmich finally found his role in the defensive midfield and also symbolically took over the number of the Spaniard. It seems as if he can bring his leadership qualities even better on the lawn from there. But this development poses a problem for his trainer: “I wonder when I can spare him? Then you have to expect your anger, but it has to be,” Flick said.
