Gündogan: “Get on my ass”

After scoring 1-1 in the Nations League in Switzerland, the mood is depressing for many players. Especially Ilkay Gündogan speaks plain after the new draw.

And again, nothing with the premiere victory: the German national team missed the expected first success in the sixth attempt in the Nations League.

The team of federal coach Joachim Löw had to settle for a disappointing 1-1 (1-0) against Switzerland in Basel – and was even well served with that.

Ilkay Gündogan (goalscorer Germany): “It was entirely up to us. I’m a little pissed, too. We have already lost balls unnecessarily in the front in the first half – balls that we actually have to fix. We dominate the game and could have worked out even more good chances. In front of the goal, we play an uncompromisingly wrong pass and run into a counter. Such a thing must not happen from this level. After 1:1 it was difficult. The Swiss have closed well at the front, we then lack the solutions, we are getting tired. This is not a process that is quite simple football game. If you have the ball in the front, then you have to claim it. Then you swim the last 10, 20 minutes, and then you’re lucky to get out of here with one point. This is killing me. I’m dissatisfied. Even against Spain, we did not do much good in the second half. We have to work on the simple things. We gave away two points.”
