Lionel Messi’s desire to change causes sharp criticism of a Barca presidential candidate. Toni Freixa sees only losers in the swap

posse. Long-time Barca official Toni Freixa (51) has sharply criticised the way Superstar Lionel Messi deposited his desire to change at FC Barcelona.

“The fact that Messi now unilaterally announces his move via a written announcement and simply no longer appears indicates a deep conflict, which both Barca and the player themselves put in a bad light,” Freixa said in an interview with Spox and Goal: “Messi’s behavior is surprising and disappointing in my view.”

Purely sporty, however, he understands the desire for change of the 33-year-old Argentinian. “Messi is a player who longs for maximum success. He alone cannot achieve maximum success, he needs a team to do so. He doesn’t,” said Freixa, who wants to run for president of the top Catalan club next year.

Freixa: No change of heart with Messi Freixa does not believe in a rethinking of
the six-time world footballer. “As I have heard from several sides, the decision in the player has matured over several years and is irrevocable. I don’t think there’s another way back,” he said.

Messi had informed the club bosses in the previous week after 20 years at Barcelona and despite a contract until 2021 of his desire to change and demanded the dissolution of the working document. In doing so, the world star and his lawyers invoke a clause under which he could have duly terminated by June 10.
