Real’s dilemma on the offensive

The end of the Champions League hurts Real Madrid a lot. Especially the offensive is not very galactic. Will Martin Odegaard be back sooner than expected?

This offense is not royal at all.

For years, Real Madrid stood for one thing above all else: refreshing offensive football and unbridled goal-hunger. Even in the days of Luís Figo, Zinédine Zidane and David Beckham, the Spanish capital was almost exclusively concerned with offensive football, and its own defence often suffered as a result.

With the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009, this development reached a new level. Under the leadership of the Portuguese, the royals regularly shot everything short and to pieces, with Ronaldo himself setting one goal record after another.

To quote a few numbers: In the 2014/15 season, the Royal League scored an incredible 118 goals in 38 matches, with Ronaldo himself contributing 48. In the following season, it was 110.

Far from the Ronaldo era
The years of dominance, which was particularly evident internationally with four Champions League titles in five years, was due in no small part to the unbelievable offensive power of the royals.
