The rising corona numbers in Catalonia endanger the round of sixteen of the Champions League between FC Barcelona and SSC Naples. Another venue is conceivable.

The holding of the second round of the Champions League round of sixteen between FC Barcelona and SSC Naples is endangered due to the increasing number of corona cases in Catalonia.

According to radio station RAC 1, the match scheduled for August 8th is to be moved to another venue. The European Football Union (UEFA) is already in contact with the regional health authorities and is investigating alternative venues, according to the public broadcaster.

However, UEFA has only partially confirmed this. “We are monitoring the situation and are in contact with the relevant local authorities,” the association told SID: “The match has been scheduled and should take place in Barcelona as planned.

In the first leg, played at the end of February, Barca had not gone beyond a 1-1 draw in Naples.

After the situation in the initial Corona crisis area of Catalonia had calmed down somewhat in the meantime, the number of cases had recently risen again rapidly. The German Foreign Office has been advising against “unnecessary tourist trips” to Catalonia for a few days now because of “high infection rates and local barriers”.
