André Schürrle is leaving Borussia Dortmund permanently. It is the end of a misunderstanding. Will the former Tuchel Wish player quit completely?

It is now almost exactly four years since BVB brought André Schürrle from Wolfsburg.

The black and yellow team has spent 30 million euros on the 2014 World Champion. This made Schürrle the undisputed record transfer. Never before have the Dortmunders spent more money on a player.

It was the beginning of a big miss marriage.

On Wednesday, BVB announced the early termination of the contract, which runs until 2021. “Looking back, it was a time with ups and downs, but also with many valuable experiences both in the sporting and especially in the private sphere,” the attacker is quoted on the club’s homepage. “I would like to thank those responsible at BVB and wish the club and its special fans all the best for the future.”

Severance pay for Schürrle
The Pott-Klub agreed with the 29-year-old winger on a severance payment. According to information, BVB paid his storm flop less than half of the outstanding base salary, and thus less than three million euros. With full performance bonuses, Schürrle could have achieved an annual salary of around eight million euros at BVB.

“It was definitely not a success story for either side,” says BVB boss Hans-Joachim Watzke. “That’s why it was best that we have now terminated the contract prematurely. We wish André all the best for the future.”

Review: In summer 2016 there was a big change in the BVB squad. After second place in the Bundesliga, which the Dortmunders achieved with 78 points behind the Bavarians (88), the key players Ilkay Gündogan (Manchester City), Mats Hummels (Bavaria) and Henrikh Mkhitaryan (Manchester United) left the club.
