FC Bayern Munich wants to win its first Champions League title since 2013. Before that, Hansi Flick’s team will have to clear some hurdles.

The countdown has begun.

In about four weeks FC Bayern Munich will fight for the title in the Champions League.

Since Friday they have been fixed: the dates and possible opponents of FC Bayern Munich on the way to the long-awaited triple. The record champions will most likely have to clear very high hurdles on their way to their first Champions League title since 2013.

Nevertheless, coach Hansi Flick’s team is considered the top favourite for the title. A quarter-final clash with Chelsea FC in the second leg of the last 16 is still to be played. However, Munich welcome the Londoners with a comfortable 3-0 lead from the first leg, which was played before the Corona Pandemic.

Rummenigge warns against “too much euphoria
A possible CL triumph is only four games away, but the record-holding champion warns against too much euphoria: “Now the first thing we need to do is let the team regenerate, prepare with great concentration for the round of sixteen return match in the Allianz Arena against Chelsea and get on with the game. We should go step by step like we did in 2013, and do it calmly. Because I’m already feeling too much euphoria after the double win in public. Now the focus is on Chelsea, then we’ll see what happens,” commented CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge on the draw.

In contrast to most of the other participants, the Bavarians will have a five-week break before the upcoming matches. It is not foreseeable how this circumstance could affect the performance.

The Bavarians want to do everything possible to be perfectly prepared for the final phase of the premier class. It is important to find the right level of stress and recovery, after all the very compressed final spurt in the Bundesliga has left its mark on the players.
