Clemens Tönnies faces fierce criticism in his company in the wake of the Corona scandal. Bavarian Honorary President Uli Hoeneß is now jumping to his side.
Uli Hoeneß has defended Schalke boss Clemens Toennies.
“Partly it reminds me of my time with the tax thing. I think that once you’re inside such a machine, everyone tries to overtake the other with their criticism. I must honestly say: If mistakes were made, then you have to stand by them. That’s what he does. If things can be changed, then you have to do it. I assume that he does that when it is necessary,” said the honorary president of the Munich-based company to Blickpunkt Sport on Bavarian television.
“But for everything he has achieved, everything he has built up for a large company, to be suddenly reduced to rubble, that can’t be it. But this is a sign of our society: When it’s your turn, there’s no stopping him – and he’s experiencing that right now.
It’s no coincidence that Hoeneß takes Tönnies side: The two meat producers have known and appreciated each other for a long time and have already worked together on charitable projects.
Recently, more than 1,500 employees at the main factory of the Tönnies group were infected with the coronavirus. In the course of this, massive criticism of the working conditions was voiced. Many Schalke fans are demanding the resignation of their supervisory board chairman.
Hoeneß trusts Bayern Triple
Hoeneß also commented on the situation of the record champion. The 68-year-old believes that his FC Bayern will win the triple this season. “If our team can maintain this form, we have a good chance to win it all.”
